Community Economics was established in 1976 to provide technical expertise in the emerging field of nonprofit affordable housing development and community based economic development.

As federal housing resources have decreased, the nonprofit sector has become a major producer of affordable rental housing. Through direct technical assistance to nonprofit developers, and through involvement with local, state, and national housing policy issues, CEI has been at the forefront of the affordable housing movement, developing creative solutions and resources to meet the housing needs of low income households.

Our primary clients are nonprofit housing development organizations and social service agencies providing housing for their special needs clients. CEI has also worked with tenant organizations and groups forming limited equity cooperatives. Public agencies frequently hire CEI to assist them in evaluating housing proposals from private developers or in devising housing priorities and programs.

Oakland Digital (ODALC) presents our third annual “Inspire Oakland” graphic art project, co-sponsored by City of Oakland, CBS Outdoor, Améredia, Oaklandish, Cal State East Bay and Peralta Colleges.

2011 winner, Eric Welden

Oakland Digital invites the local community to participate in a collaborative billboard contest. “Inspire Oakland” encourages interest in graphic design and information technologies through creative expression. The ultimate goal of this project is to promote a positive image of Oakland that unites and inspires its diverse population, while encouraging young talent to jumpstart their digital media careers.

Prizes:

• All participants will create a professional design for his/her design portfolio.
• The top ten designs will be exhibited at (3) prominent Oakland, CA, events.
• The top design will be displayed on a commercial billboard!

• Keep in mind, viewers will have 2-4 seconds to digest your design, keep it simple!
• Artists may submit (2) billboard designs, total; please submit original work only.
• Signed release forms are required for copyrighted images or materials. Release forms are also needed for “subjects,” whether public or private citizens: click here to download release form.
• When creating your billboard, please remember that the winning designs may be reproduced and formatted to fit various media specifications; again, simple is better than complex!

Street Level Health Project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of underserved urban immigrant communities in the Bay Area. Our organization is an entry point to the health care system for those most often overlooked and neglected, namely the uninsured, underinsured, and recently arrived.

Street Level Health Project’s model for closing the gap in health care access for low-income, recently immigrated communities is three-fold: 1) bringing health care to the community through our Health Access Program; 2) tightening the link between individuals and community health clinics through our Navigator Empowerment Program; and 3) addressing the root causes of poor health by strengthening and empowering individuals and communities to be healthy through our Health Education and Leadership Program.

SLHP develops trusting relationships with new immigrants, offers them a place to build a healthy and vibrant community, and empowers them to advocate for the well-being of themselves and their families.
