Inspire Oakland 2011: Laney College Judging Session

The “Inspire Oakland” campaign was launched to generate interest in graphic design and information technology through creative expression, while also encouraging artists to help project a positive image of Oakland through their designs. Nearly 400 design submissions were submitted this year, thanks to Laney College and McClymonds High School, which both implemented “Inspire Oakland” into their respective art programs.

Small Business SUCCESS!

Oakland Digital Arts & Literacy Center (ODALC) first annual “Social Media for Small Business: Online Marketing Symposium” held at Oakland City Hall, Council Chambers was an overwhelming success. The event was open to the public with a purpose of displaying how to use social media tools effectively to help increase their Return on Investment (ROI), reach untapped and potential customers, how to stay connected with customers and boost their online brand presence.


Oakland Digital Celebrated

Embracing technology and its do-it-yourself energy, a small family business in Oakland, flexed the powers of digital technology to produce their own book. Inspired by the efforts of the Oakland Digital Arts & Literacy Center (ODALC), the book is titled, Rosewood House by Wilson Tai, and is a portfolio and visual history of the works created by the small family business specializing in its own designer fine furniture.


Ribbon Cutting at East Oakland Community Library

The new East Oakland Community Library – at 21,000 square feet – will be the largest branch in the Oakland Public Library system. It will also be the first joint public library-school facility in Oakland. The project will feature children and teen areas, an Internet café, copy center, an adult (quiet) reading room, community meeting room, a computer lab, multi-media classrooms, WiFi connection, and conform to Green building standards (including use of solar PV panels).

Inspiration Awards Gathers Oakland Community on a Historic Night

After more than a year of striving to establish itself in a time of economic downturn, the local technology nonprofit succeeded in hosting its first annual Inspiration Awards, which celebrated the City of Oakland and honored three influential people for their significant contributions to the community…


National Night Out in West Oakland (Part 2 of 2)

The Oakland Housing Authority, The John Stewart Company, Oakland Digital Arts & Literacy Center (ODALC) and the Craigslist Foundation held the 2010 West Oakland National Night Out (NNO) on 8th Street & Mandela in Oakland, California.

Oakland Digital Arts & Literacy Center (ODALC) provided the community with a Digital Photography booth with cool activities and an innovative approach for West Oakland youth to pick-up new skills.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT is designed to:

- Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
- Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs;
- Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
- Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
